1962
The 1962 World Cup was
the biggest yet. 52 teams tried to qualify for the
final stage. 15 qualified to join the host nation,
Chile.
Pelé scored in Brazil’s first game against Mexico, but
was injured in the next match. The champions went on to
win the Cup for the second time without him.
Little Bird
The star of the 1962 World Cup was Garrincha. The
player they called 'the little bird' scored two goals
in the 3-1 victory over England in the quarter final.
In the semi-final against Chile he scored two more and
assisted a third.
